This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
