Supporters Urge Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are calling for that a man who jumped a fence and grabbed the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the cast made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account contains clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Many supporters criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the end of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote another comment on Instagram.
Several fans also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some called for digital services to block Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande looked shocked when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising friendship between two very different characters.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, winning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
