Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat

Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Response

Slot highlighted recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with performances like these.”

He stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
