Brian Eno Urges Backing to Get Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The effort aims to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it fails to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby includes a group of prominent voices from the industry. All were part of the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a team of talented individuals. The single showcases a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the project have clarified that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These donations will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a representative said. “We aim for as much as possible. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the area was characterized as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of property described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a few million won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The song is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
