Air Force Staff Sergeant Healing Following Sustaining Gunshot Wounds in the Nation's Capital

A member of the National Guard is showing improvement after he was critically injured in an ambush-style shooting last month in Washington DC.

The family of the 24-year-old soldier, twenty-four, report "his head wound is gradually improving and that he's beginning to 'regain his familiar appearance,'" stated West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey.

The soldier's relatives anticipates the military non-commissioned officer to be in intensive treatment for the coming fortnight, and they feel optimistic about his progress, according to the official's statement.

Staff Sgt Wolfe was one of a pair of state guardsmen injured by gunfire when a shooter began shooting not far from the White House on 26 November. His colleague, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, died from her injuries.

"We continue to ask all state residents and Americans for their thoughts and prayers!" Morrisey declared.

The governor attended a vigil on last Friday night for the injured soldier at a local secondary school in his hometown, where the serviceman was once a student.

A clergyman at the event read a statement from the guardsman's mother and father, Jason and Melody Wolfe.

"We know that there is a long road to go," they expressed, as reported by local news outlet outlets.

"But our faith keeps us hopeful. We remain grateful for the well-wishes and the support from people all over the globe."

Previously, the state official said the serviceman had responded to a nurse with a thumbs-up and was capable of move his toes.

Police have formally accused the suspected shooter, an individual from Afghanistan named Rahmanullah Lakanwal, with premeditated homicide and assault with intent to kill.

Prior to his arrival to the United States in 2021, he was once a member of a special forces unit in a CIA-backed unit that worked with American troops in the South Asian nation.

Staff Sgt Wolfe was one of 2,000 National Guard members whom President Donald Trump dispatched to the nation's capitol in August as part of his policy initiative in Democratic-led cities.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the former president said he desired an additional five hundred National Guard troops deployed to the nation's capital.

The Trump administration has also referenced the shooting as a reason for further restrictive policies.

They have cancelled all citizenship ceremonies for immigrants from a list of nations that were part of a travel ban implemented over the summer, among them Afghanistan.
